International Day of Zero Tolerance for #FGM

February 6th, 2026

Her Voice Matters is a community gathering in recognition of the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM. Female genital mutilation, or FGM, is the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non medical reasons. It is internationally recognized as a human rights violation and serious public health issue affecting millions of girls and women globally. While most prevalent in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, prevention requires education, culturally grounded dialogue, and strong protection systems everywhere.

The panel will begin shortly before 4:00 PM and will be moderated and thoughtfully structured, with time for meaningful discussion and community Q and A. Topics will include:

• Women’s rights and child protection
• Education as prevention
• African history and cultural context
• Feminism across cultures
• Protection systems in Spokane
• What Zero Tolerance looks like in practice
